With the reduced packaging, huge variety of flavours and depth of aromas, loose leaf tea is becoming more and more popular. Perhaps a weekend treat, rather than the everyday morning cuppa, loose leaf tea is a little more expensive than your average tea bags, but possibly worth it!
Whether you stick with the classic Black Breakfast Tea or like to experiment with tea flavours, loose leaf teas give you the variety of extra ingredients that bring the additional aroma. There’s the classic Earl Grey or Moroccan Mint, Indian Spiced Chai or Jasmine Green, Chamomile Flower or Lemon & Ginger, all have their individual charm and added benefits.
Brewing with loose leaf teas…
It can be a trial and error process to experiment with the amount of tea, depending on how strong you like it! But generally we would use one teaspoon of tea per cup.
And with the strength of the teas, you can make it last longer by reusing the tea leaves. After one pot of tea, try topping it up with more boiling water and you should get another round of cups out of each serving.
Of course, you will need a strainer or an infuser to brew with loose leaf teas. And depending on your equipment, you can brew your tea directly in a cup or a teapot. And we like to leave the tea brewing for around 4 to 6 minutes, perhaps a little longer than your general tea bag.
Then add milk or sugar to taste! Some tea flavours may be better without milk or sugar, perhaps try a little honey to sweeten the tea, or add a slice of lemon, then enjoy!
